I'm worried about my boyfriend.  What bothers me is that he smokes at least a pack  of cigarettes per day, and he's coughing all day and even when he's asleep.  He has severe sleep apnea, and snores so loudly I have to shut the door to the bedroom, and run a fan.  The problem is, that no matter what, he will cough so hard first thing in the morning, that he vomits his dinner that he ate after his late-night beer drinking.  Is it the drinking?  or is it the cigarettes?  What is wrong with him? It concerns me, but he acts as if it's nothing to be concerned about.  He's smoked for thirty-six years, even has a Nicotrol prescribed inhaler, but won't even try to quit. Is there anything that I can tell him, to make him realize he's committing a slow suicide?

Probably the combination of it all, but most likely the cigarettes.  I smoked about 5 years off and on and I have a coughing problem.  Just tell him that you love him and care about him and want him to be around for the rest of your life.  Make him see that this is an issue that is in your relationship and its ruining it.

You are also committing a slow suicide by exposing yourself to second hand smoke. He may have Emphysema and sleep apnea. There's no way to know for sure unless a doctor makes a diagnosis. Your boyfriend will change when he wants if he ever wants. You can't make someone want to change. Drinking too? His liver may be shot. If he shows no interest in getting healthy then it may be time for you to move on and find someone in a healthier place mentally and physically.

He needs to quit smoking and drinking.  Severe apnea is not good, as it can cause heart problems and other health problems.  He better see a doctor soon.

He needs to see the doctor and buy some pills. May be some sports to build up his resistance.

People who want to live a healthy life, the first obstacle in front of you is your smoking. Once you quit smoking, you’ll find how you’ll be able to relax your mind. It is better if we live a healthy life.
