It has become fashionable in the world today to condemn smoking. However, although I feel that smoking can be harmful, I do not think it should be banned completely. Let me deal first with the positive side of smoking. First, smoking undoubtedly helps many people to relax. For some, it even improves concentration. Many people like to smoke before exams or when they are relaxing with friends. A further point is that governments throughout the world make huge profits from levying taxes on cigarettes. This provides funds which are used for building schools, hospitals and other public amenities. The tobacco industry also employs tens of thousands of people throughout the world, particularly in poorer countries like Zimbabwe or India. Without cigarettes, these people would have no jobs. I would also argue that people should have the right to choose whether they smoke or not. People should not smoke in a room where there are non-smokers but surely they should be free to smoke elsewhere. The arguments against smoking are well known. Smoking has been shown to be dangerous to health. Heart disease, bronchitis and lung cancer have all been linked. A further issue is that smoking costs governments millions of pounds because of the large number of people who need treatment in hospitals for smoking related problems. There is also concern today about passive smoking. Recent research has shown that non-smokers can suffer health problems if they spend long periods of time among people who do smoke. In general, I think the world would be a better place without cigarettes. However, the decision as to whether to smoke or not should be for each individual to make.

I would say that every person has the right to decide what he wants to do. If a person decides to smoke, it's upto him. But as for the question of passive smoking, I am of the opinion that the smoker should feel responsible towards others and smoke at a place that is not problematic to others. Laws can also be enforced upto that extent.

IMO, smoking should be up to the person. Government trying to ban smoking is just another step in Big Brother trying to take over. They tell us we have to wear helmets to ride motorcycles, and wear seat belts to drive a car. Both of those have health related issues that go along with them. If you want to argue that smoking causes illness that taxpayers have to pay for, how many people are in the same hospital with illness that was caused by alcohol, but no wants to ban drinking! Personally i was a smoker for 40 years before finding the right PV to help me quit, but I still believe it should be up to the individual.

If it were possible they should be banned but in reality it will never happen. I'm 70 and started smoking at age 10 and was addicted by the time I was 15 and smoking a pack a day. I began my journey to quit in my 30's and it has been a 40 year journey but until I started vaping I never had any long term success. I know now I will never return to smoking, I could never say that before even after I was able to quit for 10 years at one time, I still knew I could start again under the right circumstance and I did.

No way should smoking be banned. In the UK smoking companies pay more to the NHS than any other industry! Although they probably use the resources for smoking related diseases! It would still have a huge impact!!

smoking is up to the person. I think gov will never ban this~~~
and also, The Food and Drug Administration said that it planned to regulate smokeless electronic cigarette as tobacco products and would not try to regulate them under stricter rules for drug-delivery devices.

No government should ban smoking... but no government should ban or make it hard for people to choose a safer alternative like Ecigs. The moment they do, it is even worse than banning smoking. Banning smoking would loose governments around the world billions and billions of dollars per year and they would not want to do it anyway... I think the problem we may face is governments trying to preserve the TAX REVENUE$$ they will loose if more people switch to vaping. So eventually they'll probably try to tax the hell out of ecigs & nicotine to recoup their loses
