I bought a DSE-801 pen style like a month ago from a mall booth, payed a little under a hundred bucks for it, after tax. A privately-owned, very small company I've never heard of before. He says he buys his e-cigs from the company that invented e-cigs, but there's no way for me to know that for certain. Well, I have a few things to say about it.

The Good:

It's simple, reliable, and easy to use. I have an automatic battery (you inhale, it automatically turns on), which is more natural for me than pushing a button.
It's a sturdy design, and the battery life is decent. Lasts me most of the day.
Vapor production is decent when vaped normally, but you can get huge clouds of vapor off of a couple long drags.

The Bad:

Vapor production is only really good for the first few hits with a fresh battery. After that, you have to really draw on it to get nice vapor.
The inhale cutoff is about 5 seconds. In order to get a nice long drag, you have to stop inhaling for a second to reset the timer on it.
It's not heavy, but it's long, almost the length of a Bic ballpoint pen. That takes a little getting-used-to.

The Ugly:

One of my 801 attys has stopped performing very well, so now I really only have one. For 100 bucks, it should last a lot longer than that.
When adding the right amount of liquid into the refillable cartridge, it will leak out of the tiny vent holes at the bottom of the atomizer, near where it connects to the battery. Even adding a little less that normal amounts of liquid, it leaks. This gets much worse if you have it in a pocket (where else are you supposed to carry it on you?)
Where the battery meets the atomizer, the threads can bend easily. It's irritating having to bend it back into place.

Conclusion

If you are a smoker, and want to try an electronic cigarette, I would recommend going for a smaller 510 design. In general, new e-cig users tend to gravitate towards a product that looks more like a cigarette, rather than a pen. There are some very nice e-cigs that look like real cigarettes, so do your research and for crying out loud, don't pay more than $70 for a set of 2 (2 batteries, 2 atomizers, and a charger, although some kits use cartomizers, which have atomizers built in to the cartridges). Paying more than that is silly, especially if you buy them online.

Also, be sure to try many different flavors and nicotine strengths of liquid. At first, any liquid will be satisfying, but unless you really let your pallet do the looking, you may end up quickly disliking the flavor you originally chose. There are many flavors our there, but be careful where you get your liquid. MANY, and I mean MANY companies online and in stores that sell nasty, and dangerous liquid. They add alcohol and water to their liquid to maximize their production, and their profits. These "cut" liquids can make you sick, and give you mouth sores. If you buy online, be sure to check the reviews on the company at forums such as this one, or other larger forums. There are many good companies that sell very high quality liquids for a great price.
